RBC Trends: Economics of Innovation

Innovation is not a new idea, but a new value. To turn an idea into a successful product, you need change agents and an environment that supports them. The trend of the innovation economy includes a lot of elements: new business models, processes, technologies and products, inventors, investors and managers, market conditions and government measures. Anything that helps or hinders the innovation economy.

As a metaphor for the identity of the "Innovation Economy" trend, we have chosen the materialization of an idea. To visualize this metaphor, we used the guilloche technique (from the French guilloché — a pattern of wavy lines) - an ornament in the form of a dense network of wavy curly lines. Usually this technique is used to protect banknotes and securities from counterfeiting. In fact, the graphic technique and innovation are similar. On the one hand, both guilloche and innovation combine external complexity and internal simplicity. On the other hand, both processes — applying guilloche to securities and turning an idea into an innovation — require investment. Ideas turn into objects of the material world — products and services. Or they remain abstract, like a pattern of wavy lines. Visual communication is based on the change of signs within the construction of the slogan "An idea is not equal to a million" ( "Idea" ≠ "million"). Signs turn into independent graphic elements and are used in different contexts. The color scheme is a pulsating gradient from purple to yellow-red. The main color of the trend is purple, sacred, innovative. The bright orange-red gradient emphasizes the energy and liveliness of the field of ideas.
